Common side effects of acebutolol may include indigestion or heartburn, fatigue, dizziness, and headache. In most cases, side effects of the medication are mild and can be treated easily (if they even require treatment at all). However, certain side effects are potentially serious and should be reported to your healthcare provider immediately, including lightheadedness or fainting, difficulty breathing, or chest pain.

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with acebutolol hydrochloride (Sectral^®). However, not everyone who takes the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Serious Side Effects Seen With Acebutolol

There are a number of possible side effects with acebutolol that you should report to your healthcare provider. These include, but are not limited to:

Lightheadedness or fainting, which can be a sign of dangerously low blood pressure (hypotension)
An irregular, fast, or slow heart rate
Chest pain
Signs of liver problems, such as dark urine, upper abdominal pain, or yellow eyes or skin
Worsening of asthma
Depression
Signs of heart failure, such as rapid weight gain, swelling of the hands and feet, and shortness of breath
Signs of an allergic reaction, including unexplained rash, hives, itching, unexplained swelling, wheezing, or difficulty breathing or swallowing.
