Typical Results From Amiodarone
Amiodarone (Cordarone®, Pacerone®, Nexterone®) is generally a very effective medication for treating certain types of serious, irregular heartbeats known as ventricular arrhythmias. Although the typical results from amiodarone treatment tend to be positive, there are a number of factors that can affect this. Some of these factors include:
- The type and severity of the arrhythmia being treated
- Whether a person responds to and is able to tolerate the medication
- Whether other antiarrhythmia medicines are being used.
Clinical trials have shown that up to 20 percent to 40 percent of people who tolerated and responded to amiodarone well enough to continue treatment for at least a year experienced a recurrence of their arrhythmia.
