Blocadren Dosage: An Introduction
The dose of
Blocadren® (
timolol maleate) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
- The medical condition being treated
- How you respond to the drug
- Other medications you are taking
- Other medical conditions you have.
As is always the case, do not adjust this amount unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
As with all
beta blockers, you should not abruptly stop taking Blocadren, as serious problems (including
heart attacks) may result. Your healthcare provider will advise you about how to safely stop taking this medication. People are generally advised to slowly reduce the dose over a period of time, with careful monitoring, and to minimize physical activity during this time. Let your healthcare provider know if you develop chest pain or any other problems while stopping treatment.
Dose of Blocadren for High Blood Pressure
For most people, the starting Blocadren dosage for
high blood pressure treatment is 10 mg twice daily. If necessary, your healthcare provider may increase this amount, up to a maximum of 60 mg total per day (split up into two smaller doses per day).
Blocadren Dosage for Migraine Prevention
The recommended starting dose of Blocadren for
migraine prevention is 10 mg twice daily. Once your
migraines are under control, your healthcare provider may recommend taking this as just a single dose per day (Blocadren 20 mg once daily). Also, if necessary, your healthcare provider may decrease this amount (to 10 mg per day) or increase your dosage (to a maximum of 30 mg per day).
