Cordarone Drug Interactions

Cyclosporine
Cordarone may increase blood levels of cyclosporine, increasing the risk for serious side effects. If you take these medications together, your healthcare provider will likely need to reduce your cyclosporine dose.

CYP 2C8 Inducer Medications
The liver breaks down Cordarone using enzymes known as CYP 2C8 enzymes, and medications known as CYP 2C8 inducers can increase the activity of these enzymes. Thus, combining Cordarone with one of these drugs may decrease the level of Cordarone in your bloodstream, possibly decreasing its effectiveness. Your healthcare provider will need to closely monitor you if you take Cordarone with a CYP 2C8 inducer.

CYP 2C8 Inhibitor Medications
The liver breaks down Cordarone using enzymes known as CYP 2C8 enzymes, and medications known as CYP 2C8 inhibitors can decrease the activity of these enzymes. Thus, combining Cordarone with one of these drugs may increase the level of Cordarone in your bloodstream, increasing your risk for side effects. Your healthcare provider will need to closely monitor you for side effects if you take Cordarone with a CYP 2C8 inhibitor. He or she may also want to measure the level of Cordarone in your blood using a simple blood test.

CYP 3A4 Inducer Medications
The liver breaks down Cordarone using enzymes known as CYP 3A4 enzymes, and medications known as CYP 3A4 inducers can increase the activity of these enzymes. Thus, combining Cordarone with one of these drugs may decrease the level of Cordarone in your body, possibly making it less effective. Your healthcare provider will need to closely monitor you to make sure your arrhythmia is adequately controlled if you take Cordarone with a CYP 3A4 inducer.
