Cordarone Drug Interactions

Methotrexate
Cordarone can increase blood levels of methotrexate, increasing the risk for side effects. Talk to your healthcare provider about this potential interaction before taking these medicines together.

QT-Prolonging Medications
In general, Cordarone should not be combined with most medications that can cause QT prolongation (a certain change in the heart rhythm), unless absolutely necessary, due to the risk of a life-threatening arrhythmia.

Other Arrhythmia Medications
Cordarone can increase blood levels of other antiarrhythmia medicines, increasing the risk for side effects. In general, these medicines should only be used together in people who did not adequately respond to treatment with just one antiarrhythmia drug. If you must take Cordarone with another antiarrhythmic, your healthcare provider will give you lower-than-usual doses of the other antiarrhythmia medicine.

Trazodone
There have been reports of serious heart rhythm problems occurring in people who took Cordarone with trazodone. You should talk to your healthcare provider about this potential interaction before taking these medications together.

Verapamil
Cordarone should be used with caution in people taking verapamil, due to the risk of a dangerously low heart rate. Your healthcare provider will need to closely monitor you if you take these medicines together.

Warfarin
Cordarone is known to increase warfarin blood levels, which increases the risk for serious bleeding problems. If you take these medicines together, your healthcare provider will need to reduce your warfarin dose and monitor you more closely.

Final Thoughts

Not all Cordarone drug interactions were discussed in this article, as this medication interacts with far too many other medicines to possibly include them all here. Therefore, you should talk with your pharmacist or healthcare provider about any specific interactions that may apply to you.
