Closed Caption - How Safe Is ElectroPhysiologic Study (EPS)?

No procedure is completely free of risks. However, EPS has been performed safely for over twenty years with successful results and limited complications. While complications can occur in 2 out of 100 procedures, most are temporary, minor complications that can be treated by your healthcare provider.

Your overall health will play an important part in the complication rate for this procedure. For example, the average risk of a heart attack occurring during catheterization is 5 out of 10,000 patients. In seriously ill patients, the risk increases to greater than 10 in 10,000 patients. In healthier patients, the risk decreases to 1 patient in 10,000.
