After the procedure, you will be moved to a recovery room, where healthcare professionals will continue to check your progress. Any visitors or family members should be prepared to see you with an IV and a heart monitor.

While resting, you will be asked to keep your leg and arm straight. The areas where the catheters entered your vein will be checked for any sign of bleeding and for normal blood flow. To help the catheter entry sites heal, strict bed rest is required for several hours. You will not be able to walk to the bathroom. Instead, you will need to use a bedpan or urinal.

Most likely, you will feel sleepy and want to take a nap. The head of the bed may be elevated slightly and adjustments can be made so that you may rest comfortably. Some patients experience nausea after their procedure, which can be related to the drugs used. Pain medicine can be given if you feel any discomfort.

Remember that your healthcare provider wants you to recover without any problems. Depending on your particular circumstances, your rest period may be less than one day, overnight, or several days.
