Common Side Effects

Esmolol has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occur are documented carefully. During these studies, the most common esmolol side effects included:
 
  • Low blood pressure without symptoms -- in up to 25 percent of people
  • Low blood pressure with symptoms (such as sweating or dizziness) -- up to 12 percent
  • Irritation or other reactions at the IV infusion site -- up to 8 percent
  • Nausea -- up to 7 percent
  • Dizziness -- up to percent 3 percent
  • Drowsiness -- up to 3 percent.
     
Other common side effects of esmolol (occurring in 1 to 2 percent of people) included, but were not limited to:
 
  • Confusion
  • Agitation
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Vomiting.
