Nexterone Medication Information

A healthcare provider may prescribe Nexterone® (amiodarone premixed injection) to treat certain irregular heart rhythms in adults. This medicine is specifically used for treating life-threatening irregular heartbeats known as ventricular arrhythmias when other treatment has failed.

This drug does have a risk of causing life-threatening complications, so it should be started in a hospital setting, where careful monitoring and emergency care can be provided. Side effects can also occur and may include nausea, fever, and a slow heart rate.

Although Nexterone can be effective for many people, not everyone can use this medication. Information on Nexterone should be reviewed with your healthcare provider before starting treatment to help minimize potential risks. For instance, people who have had a recent heart attack or those who are taking certain medicines may not be able to safely use Nexterone.
