Samsca Medication Information

Samsca® (tolvaptan) is a prescription drug used to treat low blood sodium levels (known medically as hyponatremia) in people with certain medical conditions, such as heart failure, liver disease, and syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone (SIADH). It is approved for use in adults only.

Samsca comes as a tablet that is taken once daily. Your exact dosage will depend on how you respond to it, other medicines you are taking, and various other factors.

If your healthcare provider recommends treatment with Samsca, he or she will need information on your medical history and any other medications, vitamins, or supplements you are using. Some of the potential side effects include thirst, dry mouth, and constipation. You should also talk to your healthcare provider before starting Samsca if you have kidney disease or if you are unable to tell when you are thirsty.
