The patents for all strengths and forms of
Lanoxin® (
digoxin) have expired, and many of them are available in generic form.
For example, generic Lanoxin comes in the following forms and strengths:
- 0.125 mg (125 mcg) tablets
- 0.25 mg (250 mcg) tablets
- 0.25 mg per mL injection.
Although the generic versions are considered equivalent to the brand-name drug, it's important to know that digoxin (the "generic name" of Lanoxin) is a "narrow therapeutic index" medication. This means that tiny changes in the dose can result in large changes in the body. As a result, your healthcare providers might recommend that you stick with one brand of digoxin if possible.
