Moderate to severe kidney malfunction can occur in 7 out of 100 patients, and mild kidney problems can occur in as many as 20 out of 100 people. Most of the time these problems are temporary, returning to normal within 7 days and causing no permanent damage. However, some patients that do develop kidney problems go on to require chronic dialysis.
