Kidney Problems as a Complication of Mitral Valve Replacement

Kidney Problems After Mitral Valve Replacement: An Overview

Moderate to severe kidney problems can occur in 7 out of 100 patients following
mitral valve replacement, and mild kidney problems can occur in as many as 20 out of 100 people. Most of the time these kidney problems are temporary, returning to normal within 7 days and causing no permanent damage. However, some patients who do develop kidney problems as a complication of mitral valve replacement go on to require chronic dialysis.
