What Is Nitroglycerin Ointment?
Nitroglycerin ointment (
Nitro-Bid®) is a prescription skin ointment approved to help prevent attacks of
angina (chest pain due to inadequate blood supply to the heart).
This article refers to the nitroglycerin skin ointment that is used to treat chest pain, not the nitroglycerin ointment that is used to treat anal fissures
(see Nitroglycerin Anal Ointment for more information about this medication).
Just like any medicine, nitroglycerin ointment may cause side effects.
However, not everyone who uses the drug will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well.
If reactions do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider. Serious side effects are less common.
