Norpace Dosage

Norpace Dosing Guidelines in Children

The usual recommended dosage of Norpace in children is based on the child's age and body weight, as follows:
  • For children younger than one year old: Norpace 10 mg to 30 mg per kg body weight each day (about 4.5 mg to 13.6 mg per lb)
  • For children 1 to 4 years old: Norpace 10 mg to 20 mg per kg (about 4.5 mg to 9.1 mg per lb)
  • For children 4 to 12 years old: Norpace 10 mg to 15 mg per kg (about 4.5 mg to 6.8 mg per lb)
  • For children 12 to 18 years old: Norpace 6 mg to 15 mg per kg (about 2.7 mg to 6.8 mg per lb).
The above doses are divided up throughout the day, usually taken every six hours. Children are normally started at the lower end of the recommended dosing range. The amount is then slowly adjusted based on the child's individual response.

General Information on Taking Norpace

Some considerations to keep in mind during treatment with Norpace include the following:
  • Norpace comes in the form of a capsule. It is usually taken by mouth every six hours.
  • You will begin treatment with Norpace in a hospital setting, where you can be closely monitored.
  • This medication can be taken with or without food. Try taking it with food if it seems to bother your stomach.
  • Try to take your doses at about the same times each day to keep an even level of Norpace in your bloodstream.
  • Norpace can be made into a liquid suspension for people who cannot swallow the capsules, such as young children. Ask your pharmacist about a liquid suspension if swallowing the capsules is difficult for you or your child. Norpace liquid suspension must be shaken well before each use to make sure the medication is thoroughly mixed.
  • For the medication to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed. Do not stop taking it, even if you feel well, as your irregular heartbeat may return.
  • If you are unsure about anything related to your dosage of Norpace, please talk with your healthcare provider or pharmacist.
