Based on your past medical history, physical exam and current symptoms, your doctor is recommending a pacemaker for your heart condition. Most likely, you have had, or are at high risk of having, a problem in your heart's electrical system that makes your heart beat too fast, too slow, or just abnormally. As a result, less blood is pumped to your body and your brain. When this occurs, you may feel your heart pounding, or you may feel:
· Short of breath
These symptoms are usually most noticeable when you are trying to do something active such as walking or climbing stairs. When medications cannot control these symptoms, and they become serious or life threatening, a pacemaker can monitor your heartbeat and attempt to keep it beating at a normal rate.
