Drug Interactions With Pentoxifylline

When products such as certain herbal supplements, blood pressure medications, or diabetes drugs are taken with pentoxifylline, interactions may occur. Some of these negative reactions may increase your risk for complications, such as bleeding problems or low blood pressure. To minimize any potential complications, make sure to tell your healthcare provider if you are taking any other medications or supplements before starting treatment.

An Overview of Pentoxifylline Interactions

 Pentoxifylline (Trental®) is a prescription medication licensed to treat peripheral arterial disease (PAD). This product may potentially interact with many other medications.
 
Some of the medications that may lead to pentoxifylline drug interactions include but are not limited to:
 
 
 
 
      • Alteplase (Activase®)
      • Reteplase (Retavase®)
      • Streptokinase (Streptase®)
      • Tenecteplase (TNKase®)
     
 
  • Platelet inhibitors, such as clopidogrel (Plavix®) or prasugrel (Effient®)
  • Theophylline (Uniphyl®, Theochron®, TheoCap®, Theo-24®, Elixophyllin®).
