Complications related to an exercise stress test are very uncommon, but if they do occur, they are usually minor and can be treated by your healthcare provider. These include:
· Shortness of breath
· Nausea or
· Chest pain
The chance of serious events occurring, such as a heart attack or death, is approximately 1 in 10,000 patients. Such serious complications are usually related to the patient's overall state of health, which might include previously hidden heart disease.
It may be that in your doctor's practice, none of these complications have happened. However, it is important for you to know and understand the potential complications, so that you are fully informed before your procedure.
