Drug Interactions With Propafenone SR

CYP 2D6 Inhibitor Medications
The liver breaks down propafenone SR using enzymes known as CYP 2D6 enzymes, and medications known as CYP 2D6 inhibitors can decrease the activity of these enzymes. Thus, combining propafenone SR with one of these drugs may increase the level of propafenone SR in your bloodstream, increasing your risk for side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to closely monitor you if you take these medications together. People who take a CYP 2D6 inhibitor and a CYP 3A4 inhibitor should not use propafenone SR.

CYP 3A4 Inducer Medications
The liver breaks down propafenone SR using enzymes known as CYP 3A4 enzymes, and medications known as CYP 3A4 inducers can increase the activity of these enzymes. Thus, combining propafenone SR with one of these drugs may decrease the level of propafenone SR in your bloodstream, decreasing the effectiveness of propafenone SR. Talk to your healthcare provider if you begin taking or stop taking a CYP 3A4 inducer during propafenone SR treatment.
