Propafenone SR Dosage

Medical problems such as liver disease may affect your dosage of propafenone SR. Other factors that may affect your dosage include how you respond to this medication and whether you have certain heart problems besides atrial fibrillation. For many people, the initial dose of this medicine is 225 mg, which is taken every 12 hours. This amount can be gradually increased up to 425 mg twice daily.

An Introduction to Your Dosage of Propafenone SR

The dose of propafenone SR (Rythmol SR®) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
  • How you respond to the medication
  • Other medical conditions you may have.
As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Recommended Propafenone SR Dosing Guidelines

The recommended initial propafenone SR dosage in people with atrial fibrillation is usually 225 mg every 12 hours. Your healthcare provider may increase this amount to 325 mg every 12 hours, no sooner than five days after you start treatment. If your symptoms are not adequately controlled, your healthcare provider may increase the amount again to 425 mg every 12 hours.
People with liver disease or certain heart rhythm problems (such as heart block) may need lower propafenone SR doses.

General Information on Taking Propafenone SR

  • This medication can be taken with or without food. Try taking it with food if it seems to bother your stomach.
