Who Should Not Take Samsca?

You should not take Samsca if you:
 
  • Need your sodium blood levels increased right away.
 
  • Cannot tell when you are thirsty or cannot replace fluids by drinking.
     
  • Have very low blood pressure (hypotension) or kidney failure because you have lost too much fluid.
     
  • Take certain medicines known as strong CYP 3A4 inhibitors (see Samsca Drug Interactions).
     
  • Are unable to make urine.
     
  • Are allergic to Samsca, tolvaptan, or any of the inactive components used to make the medication. Your healthcare provider or pharmacist has a list of the inactive ingredients.
