To evaluate the cause of your fainting, your doctor has a variety of tests to choose from.
These tests usually start with the simplest, such as:
· EKG or
· Holter or Event monitor
and proceed to those that are more complicated, such as:
· Nuclear Scan Stress Test
· Transthoracic echocardiogram, or
· Electrophysiology studies
These alternative tests are reliable for looking at certain causes of syncope. If your medical history, physical exam and EKG do not help diagnose the cause of your syncope, your doctor's recommendation for further tests will be based on your individual situation.
At this time, your doctor feels that a tilt table test is appropriate for you because the episodes of syncope are probably not occurring very often, or because "simple fainting" is suspected.
