Let your doctor know if you are currently taking aspirin, blood thinners, pain medicine like Motrin or Advil or any prescription medications. Some of these may need to be stopped at least seven days before the procedure. Also, let your healthcare provider know if you have allergies to latex, iodine, betadine, seafood or any medications such as penicillin.
If you have had prior heart valve surgery or have a known heart valve abnormality, please notify your doctor performing the exam.
Depending on your situation, you may undergo other tests prior to your procedure. Your healthcare provider will explain the specific purpose of each test.
It is important that you do not eat or drink for 8 hours prior to this procedure. Take your medicines as usual with a small sip of water. You will be given specific instructions as to where and when to arrive at the medical facility.
