Closed Caption - Moving to the Recovery Room After TEE

After the initial 15 to 30 minute observation period you will be asked to rest quietly, probably in a bed, for about two hours until the effects of the sedatives, or drugs that made you sleepy, wear off. Until you are able to swallow properly you shouldn't eat or drink anything, because your throat may still be numb and you could choke on liquids or solids.

Once you have regained your ability to swallow and the numbness has worn off, you can go back to your regular diet. You may have a slight sore throat for two to four hours after the drugs wear off and this sore throat might last up to 24 hours.
