Closed Caption - Sensations You May Feel During TEE

We have mentioned a few sensations you can expect to feel during your procedure. Mostly, you can expect to feel sleepy because of the drugs given through your IV. You may experience dizziness, nausea, and some discomfort during the placement of the tube into your esophagus, or food pipe.

Some patients say that they can feel the tube pressing against the back of their throat, or they feel it moving up and down inside their chest. Normally, patients do not report pain but rather a pressure sensation or movement.

During the procedure, you will also not be able swallow your saliva. The nurse will use a suction device similar to what dentists use to remove the saliva from your mouth.

Just remember, your doctor and team of healthcare professionals will try, to the best of their ability, to make your experience as comfortable as possible.
