During the TEE, your doctor will use a probe that is attached to the end of a long, flexible tube or endoscope about the size of your little finger.

This instrument uses sound waves to look at your heart. However, you will not be exposed to radiation or X-rays in any manner. With a special attached steering device, the doctor is able to manipulate the probe to obtain the different desired views of your heart.
